At least do better than these guys.
The Fourth of July theme float featured students holding sparklers which apparently ignited tissue paper on the display at about 5:20 p.m. while the float was nearing Veterans Square.
The passengers quickly used a fire extinguisher that was being kept on board as a precaution and suppressed the flames. Bradford City’s fire trucks — which had just returned to the garage two blocks away from a parade spot 12 spaces ahead of the Fourth of July float — came back.
“That was a bit more excitement than we planned,” said High School Principal Ken Coffman.
None of the students were hurt.
Bradford City Fire Department members responded to the scene for about 10 minutes, and the parade went on after the area was cleared. Firefighters didn’t have trouble making it to the emergency despite the heavy crowd of onlookers and parade participants.
