If You Need To Perform A Tracheotomy On Yourself

May 9, 2008 · 3 Comments

This guy can show you how to do it.

Wilder said he didn’t call 911 because he didn’t think help would arrive in time. So, the 55-year-old says, he got a steak knife from the kitchen and made a small hole in his throat, allowing air to gush in.

Wilder suffered from throat cancer and related breathing problems several years ago. About that time, he had an episode where he couldn’t breath because his air passages swelled shut. He said that’s what happened this time around.

Makes me think of that lady in Mexico (I think) that is like only one of three women to ever have survived a self-cesarean-section. Talk about guts.

(joke only sort of intended - I watched my wife’s done twice - it was pretty harsh and that was with her anesthetized)

They didn’t give me any anesthetic at all. Couldn’t they see I was in pain? :)

Yeah. I almost passed out when I caught too much of a glimpse of what was going on when my daughter was born.
