Police say an 18-year-old Toronto man took the boat out onto the lake east of Barrie, Ont., on Sunday morning after an all night party.
The boat’s pedals soon jammed and strong winds pushed the teen into choppy, deep waters.
Four firefighters from a nearby township spotted the drifting boat and started a rescue operation.
But just as they were pulling the teen into their air boat, a wave knocked them into the water and sank their boat.
About five minutes later, an OPP boat rescued all five and took them into shore.
