If You Want To Race Cars And Pilot A Speed Boat On Your 100th Birthday

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This guy has you beat.

He began his day driving his son Fred’s 2004 Lexus 430 105 mph on private land near the Discovery Bay Yacht Club and then headed to the San Joaquin River where he piloted a boat at 100-plus mph to become the fastest 100-year-old man on water.

Fred Miller said he and his father were still waiting to hear from the Guinness World Records organization whether the water feat will set a record.

Gordon Miller, of Point Richmond, has been racing boats, mostly sailboats, in the Bay Area for more than 70 years. He has lived and sailed on San Francisco Bay since he left the U.S. Navy in 1945, excluding 22 months he spent in Walnut Creek and a tour of duty during World War II.

He will be at the helm Thursday of the 36-foot Skater Cat, a catamaran powered by two 1,000-hp engines that give it a top speed of 150. With Fred on board, Miller expects to depart the Discovery Bay Yacht Club in Contra Costa County around 9 a.m. and head about five miles to flat water on the river where he’ll set what is expected to be the speed record on water by a 100-year-old man.

Miller said his father will make two passes at 100 mph so witnesses can videotape it and to assure he sets the record. Cameras on board will also record the event.

If You Get Into An Argument Over Hot Dogs

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just don’t stab each other, OK?

Authorities say 28-year-old Alfreda Van Bladel made hot dogs for her husband, Anton, for dinner.

Apparently he snatched the plate from his wife. Authorities say that’s when she stabbed him in the shoulder with a steak knife.

They say he then grabbed a gun and pointed it to her head saying, “I’m going to kill you.”

If You Punch A Police Horse In The Rear End

April 6, 2008 · 1 Comment

Don’t be surprised when you get arrested.

The Tampa Police Department report said the officer and horse were clearing the street and sidewalks in the 19th Street area of Seventh Avenue.

Carl Coward, 24, of 111 Hodges Road, Lakeland, balled his fist and punched the horse in the right rear hip area, the report states.

Coward was charged with battery of a law enforcement animal and is being held at the Orient Road Jail on $500 bond, jail records show.

Where Was I Today?

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I was on the grounds of Westminster College in Fulton, MO today to view a watercolor painting exhibit, and to see my father in law receive an award for his work. Sadly, I didn’t take any pictures of the paintings. It seems some of the folks get a might touchy about flashbulbs and their art colliding.

Anyway, I did go out to the Churchill Memorial, the Churchill Statue, and the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury to snap a few pictures, including a piece of the Berlin Wall that is on the grounds of the College. The section is large enough, I had to shoot this picture from across the street to get it in the shot.

I know I am not the best photojournalist, but I hope these few meager photos display the magnitude of what this college has on its grounds

If You Want A New Training Method For Rugby Players

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This guy coaches the Japanese team, and he has an idea.

The former New Zealand great, whose team emerged from last year’s rugby World Cup with credit, watched from a safe distance as his players took a pounding from the roly-poly wrestlers.

“There’s techniques you can use in the scrum,” Kirwan told Japanese media on Thursday. “The speed at the face-off can help with the hit in the scrum.”

His players were not quite so enthusiastic about taking such a battering.

“It’s a totally different ball game,” winced Japan lock Hitoshi Ono, sporting the traditional buttock-bearing “mawashi” loin cloth worn by sumo wrestlers. “These boys are huge!”

If You Want To Drink With The Old Guy From “Saved By The Bell”

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

He can be yours for just a few drinks.

Quoth Don:

After some more digging, I’ve come to realize that Dennis Haskins makes a living traveling the country and drinking with people who want to “get shitfaced with Mr. Belding!!!!!!!!!!!!”. Plain and simple, the man is a beast and for the price of a few Budweiser draft beers you can live out your fantasy of being Zack Morris for the evening.

Sometimes, Being A Child Prodigy Is Too Much

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It turns out Sufiah Yusof was a child prodigy who went to Oxford at the age of 13. How have things turned out for her?
See for yourself.

After a short-lived marriage she returned to the family home in Coventry, only to leave again after another row with her father.

That was the last they heard from her until a week ago, when the “sexy, smart student” who prefers “older gentlemen” working in Salford, Greater Manchester, was unmasked as Sufiah.

Ok. That’s bad enough. But what now?

On Saturday, her devastated mother, Halimahton, pleaded with Sufiah to come home, telling the Daily Mail she had not even known whether her daughter was alive since last hearing from her in 2005.

Yesterday Sufiah, now 23, likened her career to glamorised depictions of prostitution such as the Julia Roberts movie Pretty Woman and the Secret Diary of a London Call Girl TV series, starring Billie Piper.

“People think escorting is sleazy and terrible but I don’t see it like that,” she said. “I’ve always had a high sex drive – and now I’m getting all the sex I want.

“I have a nice life and I am in control.”

Yikes.

Truly sad.

If You Want Another “Gary Busey Is Crazy” Story

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Here it is.

“I was interviewing him once and asked him, what’s the craziest thing you ever snorted cocaine off of? He couldn’t think of anything, but afterwards his publicist called me and said, you know that question? And I thought, oh man, they want me to pull the question. But no, they said that Gary remembered he had a better answer for me.”

If You Were Missing Those “Person Eaten By Zoo Animals Stories”

April 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Your wait is over.

Zhang Yachun disappeared from his home in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, on March 24 and five days later police told his parents he had been eaten by a tiger in a nearby zoo, the China news service reported, citing a Harbin newspaper.

“Only two legs and his skull were left,” the report said.

Zhang’s grieving parents said their 37-year-old son suffered mental illness and “especially loved tigers”.

China has a poor record of keeping people away from dangerous zoo and circus animals.

In February, a circus lion ripped a 10-year-old boy’s arm off after grabbing him through the bars of its cage.

Thanks to Ace.
