Paterno was paid $427,220 in the first 10 months of 2007 — putting his year-end salary on track to be $512,664. He was paid $490,638 last year, according to the retirement system.

“I’m paid well. I’m not overpaid,” Paterno said earlier in the day, during an interview with reporters about his upcoming College Football Hall of Fame induction. “I got all the money I need.”

But it’s not even close to what some other big-name coaches are making. Alabama’s Nick Saban is the highest paid coach at $4 million per year, while Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops makes over $3 million. Ohio State’s Jim Tressel, Florida’s Urban Meyer and South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier make upward of $2 million annually.

Tyson J. Lotz, who turns 29 on Saturday, was charged Thursday by Dodge County District Attorney Steven Bauer with one count of felony murder for the death of Ronald Schellinger, 46.

Schellinger served two terms on the Herman Town Board from 2001 to 2005.

According to the criminal complaint, Schellinger, of the Town of Herman in Dodge County, exited Hauser’s Hideaway bar in the Town of Rubicon just after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday and in the process bumped Lotz, who was outside the bar speaking on his cell phone.

The two exchanged words until Schellinger was a quarter of the way across the street, turned around and came back to Lotz, a witness told investigators.

Lotz told investigators that Schellinger then entered his “bubble” and that he felt threatened and punched him in the face once, knocking him backward, causing the back of his head to hit the concrete.

What a shock booze was involved.
